‘An analogy for the relationship between underground Hip-Hop and the mainstream’ [inspired by Seph 1] written by Jason Oliveros aka Def!nition
It’s like they are two parts of the same tree. Some choose to strive for the top. Few become branches and fewer become leaves. This is the mainstream and their goal is to reside on the top and get the attention. But on the opposite end of the tree is the roots and that’s why its called underground. As new artists we can never truly be at the roots, but we can stay close and form the trunk. This is what holds the culture. Whether we like it or not the roots are connected to the trunk, and the trunk is connected to the branches and the branches are connected to the leaves. The difference is that we are strongest at the base of the tree. The leaves will fall and the branches will break but the trunk will remain for as long as the tree stands.
