July 25, 2010
what up jazz minds?! peaceofmind & different definition in the house! haha YES! rockin’ that hip-harmony for all in-attendance on yet another beautiful sunday evening

hosted by the GodSquad, “Spoke*In” went off like nothing else. with spoken word, praise, saxophone, interpretive dance numbers, and LIVE ill-fresh HIP HOP (courtesy of you already know who, haha
, the night was one of positive message and community.
our boy DJ WUNDA (big ups son!!) was in the house, visiting from LA (it was his first time in Hawaii!) and holding it down on the decks as Sahak and I ripped it lyrically ti-zight! can’t truly express how great a feeling it was to be on-stage as a trio with such great friends
finally, many thanks to the ladies Jackie, Nina, and the entire GS crew, plus Jazz Minds (Danny & Mama-san) for thinking of us and allowing us the opportunity to perform! we had a great time and feel blessed to have been a part of the night’s line-up!
’til the next time!
peace on fam.
sincerely,

Wikoliana Educational Excursions Presents: Hip Hop on a Float! Independence Day Parade, Kailua, HI
July 5, 2010
you gotta love a float. and a parade, and friendly faces, and above all, freedom. for real though, let freedom ring let freedom breathe! precisely what peaceofmind & different definition had in mind as they stepped on stage float-style as special guests alongside always awesome and welcoming Wikoliana Educational Excursions
not often does one get to spit hip hop to a crowd as diverse as this, from babies and small toddlers with wide-eyes to chill teen boys riding by on bikes, young pretty girls lounging in kiddie pools to adults of all ages, even those with hair turned white in wisdom from living the experience of years past were getting jiggy as we passed by on our float, with beats bumping phat and us rappers rapping spizaz! haha, what a delight! people of all different colors, shapes and sizes came out on a perfect sunny and blue-skied morning to enjoy the festivities proper, and believe us when we say, they most certainly did.
as we passed by on our hip harmony float spitting our positive and upbeat hip hop vibe, bodies began dancing, smiles started appearing, and a connection between us and our parade peoples began forming on a level that can only be described as magical. we laid down a medley of our most juking and jiving tracks on a repeat cycle to keep the peoples hollering and shaking their stuff, moving and waving their limbs side-to-side, hands in the air high grooving with different definition and peace of mind! and they did!! haha, awesome
what else can we say? the experience was one not soon to be forgot, an exhibition-type reminder of the love we all share for real, positive, and GOOD hip hop. many thanks to WIKOLIANA EDUCATIONAL EXCURSIONS for hooking us up so phat with the stage, the equipment, and the invitation along with everything else, but above all, we’d like to thank them for believing in us.
and of course, a huge thank you to all of you who were there throwing it up and getting down with us 4th of July 2010 style, holding it proper in your minds and hearts and representing the true spirit of the celebration that is independence, the pursuit of truth, justice, life, liberty and happiness for all!
much love, peace, and aloha

feelin’ it FRESH at the fresh cafe, haha, for real though, check the pic and tell me what more can i say?!
peaceofmind & different definition brought the illness to Fresh Cafe in the form of that sweet hip hop coupled with the presence of the intense natural chemistry the two passionate emcees PAKMAN & SAHAK continue to nurture, alongside their brother sir justin mears covering the shutter, their beautiful and supportive gorgeous girls, old friends as well as new, and all of the other stellar performers and artists present reppin’ real-live hip hop on a summer thursday night here in honolulu! mos’ def’, fun times had by all

First Friday 50/50 Show at OnG KiNg Arts Center in Downtown Honolulu
June 4, 2010
“yes! get fresh get deaf! everybody give it up ’til ya got nothin’ left!” and that’s precisely what everybody at ong king did friday night, june 4th twenty and ten!
haha, by far, hands-down, one of the illest and most epic live shows we have ever had the pleasure of being a part of! around 30-40 bodies, beautiful peoples, girls and guys, old and young, hip and fly alike all there having a good time and making the loft’s graffiti-artified walls shake and boogy to the boogy of the boogy the beat! freakin’ sweeet!!
alas, we have no actual documentation of our own of the intense vibrations and performance that blew out the dope space that is Ong King Arts Center, and our sincerest apologies for that, but in fact, it was only cos the party was SO damn caught up in the vibe and energy that is PEACEOFMIND:DIFFERENT DEFINITION that there simply was just no time nor desire for anyone (including us who were too busy turning the spot out!) to do so. everybody just simply had to dance and groove!
and that’s exactly the way we like it
come out and join us at the next if you’d like to truly experience for yourself what a peaceofmind & different def show is all about! and for those in-attendance friday night, know you have our utmost and deepest thanks for sharing with us your love, enthusiasm, smiles, kind words, and dances that night. know the memories of your energies will and are now forever a part of ours
and mos’ definitely fo’ sho’, KNOW you can count on us bringin’ it live, jive, fly and ever so mother-freakin’ tizight like tightrope the next time around! and that without a doubt, as always, peaceofmind:different definition will be bringin’ it, hip hoppin’ it, and keepin’ it oh so FRESH for all y’alls pleasures and delights!! haha, keep up y’all! and one love to you and yours. peace.

EntertainMe! TV Shoot Pt. II in Honolulu
April 26, 2010
how do you cook up an order of live, jive, and oh-so-fresh for the masses hip hop??
well, the recipe’s actually pretty simple really.
you begin by seasoning (1) dope pakman, then, adding (1) fresh sahak, mixing in some dj hi vibes, placing on stage and baking for 2 hours, and voila! you got one solid-style debut tv performance ready to ingest! holla!
peaceofmind: different definition & entertainme! tv hooked up, super late-night style (talking like 2:30 am peeps!) for the shooting of “get fresh” and “immortal”. the tapings went great, albeit a little bit shaky on account of dj hi vibes first-time behind the decks on such a brightly-lit and camera-hot stage, but the performance went down nonetheless solid

a huge thank you to the crew of entertainme! for all their hard work and dedication and for once again hooking up the opportunity, and big ups to hawaiian brians and supes for hosting!
keep on the look-out for the next one pom-heads! haha, and watch for us on the tel-lie-vision y’all, reppin’ the truth and keepin’ it real! we out!
one love.

Save Our Ocean at Wikoliana (Aloha Tower) Harbour, Honolulu
April 24, 2010
peaceofmind: different definition. it’s what it is and what it is is fresh! even the high school break dancers will agree!
such a great experience, this show was the pinnacle of last-minute execution done right!
receiving the nod to set-up and head-up the sound+entertainment for this volunteer-driven event at the wikoliana harbour a mere 16 hours before the event, an event meant to raise awareness for and help clean the storm drains polluting our already no. 1 cleanest commercial harbour in the U.S. (a clean-up effort, which, by the way, was a great success!) also resulted in an amazing display of energies in-motion!
the peaceofmind crew came together tight, with joey on the cam and acting as p.a., sahak and jordan holding it down hauling equipment and dropping sick musical vibes, myself caught up in the mix with the equipment, delegating, promoting, and taking on the team-leader role, it was the perfect combo!
so many thanks to everyone who bought a t-shirt and to those who asked for signed t’s! such a blast to sign ‘em for y’all! our first-time experiencing such. and also, a huge thanks to the break dancers, the volunteer high schoolers who were digging the vibe, the HIPK free-runners, the ladies dancing like amazing movement i want to see again and again, and everyone else who helped us turn this event out proper! heck, it was poppin’ off so proper that even the local media showed up to kop some footage of ya boys! aw yea!
but the press, forget it, we could care less, the real meaning and beauty of this day’s celebration was the feeling behind doing what you really love (which for us, is this music!) while simultaneously doing for a proper and positive cause that is ACTUALLY demonstrating action and not just spoken words! ahhh, how refreshing.
no doubt, we gonna keep this positive chi all g and rollin’ strong! peaceofmind is on once again with a different definition, another new beginning…so keep up! see where we be in ten or so
see you at the next show!
one love and blessings, peace to all.

AMP The Earth Day at UH Manoa, Honolulu
April 22, 2010
yes! get fresh get deaf! DIFFERENT DEFINITION is officially in the hi-zouse! haha, yes! your favorite funky rapping man’s rapper pakman and super smooth bass-tastic emcee sahak along with dj high vibes (first time dj’ing!) got it poppin’ off futuristic so simplistic at this year’s sustainability week festivities on the UH Manoa campus for the Aloha Music Movement Project!
t’was the debut performance for our different definition trio, haha! a virgin-like experience that was both extremely pleasurable yet strange and most awkward-like on more than one occasion, hahaha, but God bless it! after this one it’ll just get better right?!
now, some of our struggles from the show were as follows, simple and no analysis required. the elements and time placements were out of our control (as most you know how that goes), and had us thrown for a sec, but we quickly spit the reconnect and were back on our merry hip hop energetic way! with a fresh sway that had folks wanting to stay, but unable as it was, sadly, for them, too much rain
oh well, guess it’s a different story when you’re on the stage high and lifted on mus-ack!
haha, anyways! we loved the experience and want to thank all a part of it!
fa shizzle my fellow music lover friends! we’ll be seeing you soon and rip rockin’ hip hoppin’ it for y’all once again! mos’ def’ in the next, hmm let me see, like 6 days! so hey hey! hip hip hooray! vibe with ya then!
peace.

PeaceofMind Productions Presents “Growth Pt. I – Planting The Seeds” at Club 7080 in Honolulu
March 25-27, 2010
“you learn who you are, every experience, good or bad. the words are the seeds, the seeds become the actions. the actions shape the growth. welcome to life.”
in the music “business” today, a place where i just so happen to find myself as of late, life is happening.
here i am, on the heels of peaceofmind’s first 3-consecutive night production put together by your boi pakman. i find myself testing the waters and swimming close to shore, looking to the deeper blue ocean bobbing in front of me, already feeling the mass of sharks circling, and i have to keep swimming out.
so much work. honestly, this is not an easy gig you guys. you deal with divas and egos, wary owners and shady behaviors, behind-the-back dealings, accusations, and tear-downs. fans don’t show, people let you down, emotions run high. it’s the nature of it, yea, most definitely. but patience and perseverance are the virtues i cling to to stay afloat..they, and hope.
that the new relationships we’ve planted will take root! that they will lead to growth! as fellow souls reveal and bullshit egos solely-fo’-the-money hungers are concealed.
which brings me to the hypocrites. hot damn they make me sick. in a figurative sense that is, but check it, it’s still all good. what goes around comes around. and those hypocrites?? mos’ def’ they know, one day they will reap what they sow. so no worries then. all is just as it should be
our first night, thursday mar. 25 turned into a soft opening final sound prep featuring mad dope fresh producer/emcee SAHAK from the North Shore and Seattle, reppin’ it rite for REAL hip hop! spittin’ his life thru the mic! full-on open and exposed! isn’t it amazing how kindred souls meant to connect do so?! for real, Sahak and the peaceofmind crew have been on a connecting course for ages. that’s the truth. and as for the rest of the night? it played out just right as dj u and myself got the club sounds geared and performance stage prepped for friday night, our mad cryp show blow out!
featuring FOR THE PEOPLE and FIRENATION, friday march 26 went OFF! mad dope rock set by F.T.P. opened the night, evolved into a hot fi-ah fuse as FIRENATION emcees Kai and (whoops, forgot homey’s name! sorry sandy beach crew!) took to the mics with a roots/reggae flavor with what was a smooth yet punchy duet style! to top it all off, called to the mic, emcee PAKMAN of PEACEOFMIND joined the jam, completing the collab mesh with a raw hip hop progressive soul style flow! LIVE FREESTYLES FROM ALL! an epic night. unfortunately shut down early though due to management requests (boo!). but palatable as saturday night loomed on the horizon..
come saturday march 27 and i’m on edge! and quite frankly, can i say this?! mm hmm yes, yes i can. here goes, as i said before, quite frankly, i was not giving a fuck! hahaha yup yup, and all cos of having been treated like a huge disappointment by the owners the night prior. but really, what else can be expected?! treat someone like dirt and they’ll treat you like dirt back. but shoots. that’s no good. allowing the negativity to be free-roaming is never healing, and one soon finds out that when the light seems dimmest, that’s when the universe works it’s most mysterious energies. heavenly blessings come when least expected and in ways never fathomed.
this night the magic arrived in the form of 3 older koreans taking to the dance floor as SAHAK broke it down for all in attendance proper! wow, would you believe it, that turned it all upside down for me and the entire place instant! a slap-in-the-face reminder of why we do what we do. for the love of bringing the peoples together. f* the money! that is NOT why we do this. we do this to bring people TOGETHER, regardless of musical preferences, ethnic backgrounds, age, class, and all other differentiations that tend to divide us. but not anymore, not when music is involved. and please understand it clear, this music is for ALL! cos we all be connected thru music. and this is the truth. beautiful.
sets by The Everyday Heroes (roots/reggae/rock) and Sketchy (punk) rounded out the nights musical line-up.
and now here i am, after it all, writing it all down for posterity’s sake. feeling a little burnt-out on the promoter, producer, events coordinator tip, but most definitely stoked on the experiences! knowing and promising myself (and all you!) that next time will be even bigger, better, and louder! (that’s right! we got a noise complaint from blocks away friday night for our MAX’D OUT and CUSTOM-built sound system! put together and operated by yours truly pakman and dj u! woot woot!)
wow. what an experience to look back and reflect upon. i think to myself, “as growth continues and our evolution transpires, what’s coming next??…” haha, who knows?! all i know is that for now i’ve got to write and get to recording! time to get done the new graphic story pakman/dj wunda album! “perspectives of a do-gooder” pom-heads, get ready…
’til next time, peace love and aloha all!

Census 2010 at Linapuni Elementary in Kalihi
March 9, 2010
kids are awesome! so many reasons to love them, top among them being their innocence, their wonderment, and their unquestioned, unbridled enthusiasm! kinda like PEACEOFMIND oh yea!
anyhow, this performance was for the 7 – 10 year olds at Linapuni Elementary on behalf of the Census Bureau 2010 Committee which, through my good friend Kutmaster Spaz, enlisted the Pakman’s hip hop production skills to create for them a 1-min. census rap that aired as a PSA here in Hawaii on commercial radio the month of March woo hoo! (hear it here: census 2010 1-min version 2)
doing something, anything, EVERYTHING! especially music, with a positive ambition and for a positive impact are extremely fulfilling and rewarding, and it’s my hope and goal to continue doing so for as long as I have in this realm of existence.
peace, love, and aloha y’all!

All Access at Hawaiian Brian’s in Honolulu
March 5, 2010
and now here we are, hittin’ the stage on a whole ‘nother level…
haha, yup yup, the set was dope. and that’s all i really need to say about that
hehe, but on the low for real y’all, highlight of the night hands-down had to be when Kai of “Fire Nation” (facebook - Fire Nation) jumped in mid-set, and as tends to happen at a peaceofmind show, on-the-spot freestyle in-the-moment creativity began to flow, and the show transcended to a whole new plane, a peaceofmind/fire nation collaboration was born, and the barriers of genre broke down and recombined into something fresh, unique, and one-of-a-kind. as it stands, and deservedly must be called, this set, this night, rightfully-so deserves status EPIC.
now, with djembe thumpin’ deep and raw, dual emcees freeflowing off the top of the dome, and dj u live-beat creating on-the-spot rhythms, the crew represented what a peaceofmind show is truly all about – tapping into the creative realm, representing the here and now, and doing it all with style, positivity, and a dope fresh message, lyrically packaged and delivered right for all y’alls delights.
oh man fam, i am SOO serious when i say that if you haven’t been to a pom-c show yet, NOW is the time to bring yourself and immerse yourself in the experience. see with your own eyes and hear with your own ears what a peaceofmind show is really all about.
’til the next one y’all! peace, love, and aloha.
- sam the pakman & the peaceofmind crew
